In other news, we’ve pushed back the next album project.  But I’m crossing my fingers that things will fall into place to hit the studio before the winter…

In the meantime, I am recording rough home demos of the new songs and will have them up on this website soooooooon…

Mike Datz and I continue to write songs for publishing.  Jeffrey Brown and I continue to crack each other up.  Milo DeCruz and I continue to speak English.  Should any of this change, people will be notified.

Enjoy your summer!

bio

Real George is singer/songwriter Ali Young’s recording and performing project. All songs on “So Long Now” are written and composed by her, and she owns the masters.

Ali was raised in Evanston, Illinois, where she enjoyed a childhood rich in music and the arts, stydying classical flute with Janet Bergman and performing with many young performer groups including the Skokie Valley Youth Symphony.  She enjoyed singing with the Classic Chorale and taking lessons at the Old Town School of Folk Music.  Later, she earned a Bachelors degree in Rhetoric from the University of Illinois.  Then, one day, a guitar came into her life and she began to strum.  Her love of music and writing collided over some awkwardly fingered chords on a horribly out-of-tune guitar, and a singer / songwriter was born.

For years she wrote songs and kept them to herself because of paralyzing stage fright.  In 2005, at the insisting of her husband, she entered a song called “Coffee with Emily” into the Lyrics category of the International Songwriting Competition.  Out of tens-of-thousands of submissions, her song was awarded an Honorable Mention – 5th place.  It was the recognition she needed to begin to take her talent seriously.

In 2008, she finally decided to give it a go in the studio and hooked up with Emmy Nominated composer and musician, Paul Brill, for a studio project.  Paul put together a fantastic roster of musicians including Aaron Sterling, Jonathan Ahrens and Michael Zapruder.  Now, almost a year later, this recording project is being released on iTunes and Amazon as the EP “So Long Now” and under the moniker Real George.

"Real George" was a colloquialism used in the 60's in her family's old Brooklyn neighborhood. It was said to mean "groovy" or "sounds good" - and may be derived from a quote from Paul McCartney when he was describing the way a track sounded in one of the "Abby Road" sessions: "...that sounds real george..."

Ali is now, as always, working on new songs.  You can see her perform in Los Angeles - she is finally dealing with her stage fright.  Along with Producer, Mike Datz, she is currently working on a new EP to be released in the winter of 2009.
